The Leapfrog Mindset for Designers: Principles Inspired by India's Exponential Leaps in Unlikely Areas
The world of design is at an inflection point today, with the arrival of Generative AI, large scale democratisation of design tools (Figma) and methods, the increasing need for speed, and more such forces changing the way we do things as designers. There has never been a better moment than now, for us designers to reimagine and reinvent, and to leapfrog.
What better place to draw inspiration from, than a country which has now made leapfrogging a habit! India has now shown that it can create radical transformations even in areas where success seemed unlikely, or even impossible. Examples include Space exploration, the UID (unique identification) project, COVID vaccine development and deployment (approximately 800m people taken two doses), and the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) adopted by 300 million people doing transactions worth $200 billion! This talk aims to extract principles from these exponential leaps made over the last several decades and apply them to the design community and context.
